Long Island attorney Richard A. Lippe has been confirmed by the State Senate as a member of NYSTAR's tech-heavy Advisory Council that advises the state on regional technology development. Lippe, a senior partner in the Mineola-based law firm of Meltzer, Lippe, Goldstein & Schlissel, LLP, had been under consideration for the position for several months. Lippe becomes the second Long Islander to be named to the new state agency's advisory board. Mitchell H. Pally, the Long Island Association's vice president for legislative and economic affairs, previously had been appointed.

Lippe said in an interview he is especially interested in fostering a convergence of technologies and discoveries. "I want to encourage the part of the NYSTAR program that has a separate trunk of dollars to be used to fund partnerships between universities and companies for technology projects leading to new products."

Lippe, a Woodbury resident, helped found and is a board member and general counsel of ListNet, the Long Island Software and Technology Network, which links 800 software and other technology companies on Long Island. Lippe is helping to develop a similar statewide network to be known as NysNet. He is a former member of the SUNY-Stony Brook Foundation and is a director of the Collaborative Group of biotechnology companies in Stony Brook.
