Gary is Counsel to Meltzer Lippe's Bankruptcy and Debtors' and Creditors' Law Department where he provides advice to partners and their clients when bankruptcy issues are involved with their corporate, real estate and litigation matters. As part of the Bankruptcy Department he also assists one of the partners in his capacity as a Chapter 7 Trustee in matters pending in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York as well as providing advice to companies and individuals regarding their commencing insolvency proceedings under Chapters 11, 7, and 13.
Gary has varied legal experience, which includes serving as an Assistant Public Defender in Philadelphia where he established new legal rights for defendants in criminal matters. He has also served as in-house counsel and Treasurer for Ko-Rec-Type Corp., formerly known as Eaton Allen Corp. where he drafted patent and trademark applications, assured compliance with OSHA and other federal regulations, negotiated labor union contracts, spearheaded and interfaced with outside counsel in developing key litigation strategies which resulted in settling major litigations against Venus Esterbrook, Kores and others and advanced operations by managing a Canadian subsidiary and negotiating special tax benefits with Quebec Province.
He was appointed Chapter 11 Trustee in Pisces Leasing Corp. and Combined Thoroughbred Agencies, Inc. cases which involved mafia take over of a car leasing company and a ponzi scheme involving thoroughbred horses, because of prior experience in criminal matters. He has also located and sold real property acquired by the debtors' principals with assets belonging to the estates.
Gary has represented Chapter 11 Debtors (i.e., National Airlines) and has served as counsel to Official Creditor Committees and Chapter 7 Trustees of numerous hospitals, nursing homes and chain stores, as well as served as counsel to and as Chapter 7 Trustee of Baptist Medical Center of NY, the largest hospital liquidation case in the Eastern District of New York as of that time.
He has been an Adjunct Professor at Touro College since 1997 teaching courses in Business Law, Business Ethics, Real Estate, and Law and Regulations in International Business Transactions for its undergraduate and graduate programs.
In recent years, he has represented and served on the Board of international, non-profit Jewish organizations in successful meetings with Rumanian and Ukranian Government Officials including the President of Romania.
Gary and his wife, Channah, a social worker for the Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty, reside in Brooklyn. They have seven grown children and three grandchildren.
